Duplicate content if used heavily on your website or blog will prevent it from becoming an Authority site and making Big time money down the road. If you are using PLR niche products then you need to listen up very closely to this posting to avoid using their provided articles properly.

Your content could be similar to other websites on the Internet, or pages from within your own website could be similar to each other (usually the case with dynamic product catalog pages).

This tool allows you to determine the percentage of similarity between two pages.

PLR or private label rights to digital products save an incredible amount of time when putting together a product to sell online. It is great to have articles pre-packaged for you to post through out the internet or is it? I first learned of this when I went to post the articles on the several of the article directories and they were rejected for duplicate content.

One of the tricks of the trade is to have the articles rewritten. If you have five articles, post a page for each keyword used in each article. Then have an article page on your website or blog where you can post these plr articles. Then take the matching keyword articles that have been rewritten and post them on the article directories. Be sure to use keyword text links from each article directed at a specific page on your site.

In order to make a search more relevant to a user, search engines use a filter that removes the duplicate content pages from the search results, and the spam along with it. Unfortunately, good, hardworking webmasters have fallen prey to the filters imposed by the search engines that remove duplicate content. It is those webmasters who unknowingly spam the search engines, when there are some things they can do to avoid being filtered out. In order for you to truly understand the concepts you can implement to avoid the duplicate content filter, you need to know how this filter works.

4 Types of Duplicate Content to Watch Out For

1. Article Marketing: Constantly changing, but if you create the original article and post it on the directories as unique content, that is a positive for you as others take the article and post it on their website or blog for high qualty content. Now let’s share a secret with you…all search engines are not created equal and some of them may still penalize you.

2. Scraped Content: This is black hat SEO and should be avoided at all costs if you want to be in this business long term. There are automated scripts that go out on the internet and repackage web content to make it look different…but the search engines will eventually catch on and black list your site from the search engines.

3. Landing Pages: When marketing websites or blogs, in the past you could create one landing page and just reproduce it with a different keyword or key phrase to get as much traffic as possible, not anymore!  Affiliate sites with the same look and feel which contain identical content, for example, are especially vulnerable to a duplicate content filter.

4. Competing with other online store websites: Here is a big shocker if you have an online store. You and your competition are using the same wholesaler and they are happy to provide you with a description for the products you are selling. All the stores online using the same description are considered spam by the search engines, so be sure to write your own description for each product. So you might want to slowly phase a small group of products in at a time, if it is a large number.

If you are having your articles created by outsourcing, be sure to inform those writing your articles that they must pass copyscape in order to be accepted by you and payment made.

Since you need to know which sites might have copied your site or pages, you will need some help. We recommend using a tool that searches for copies of your page on the Internet: www.copyscape.com. Here, you can put in your web page URL to find replicas of your page on the Internet. This can help you create unique content, or even address the issue of someone “borrowing” your content without your permission. If there isn’t enough that you have to know, be sure to guard against duplicate content.
